Radiology Technician Casual ($29.83-$38.03)
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is technical work involving the administration of x-rays to patients to obtain films for diagnoses. The position is distinct from that of X-Ray Therapist or Radiotherapist in that Radiologic Technologists perform no x-ray therapy. The work is performed under the general supervision of a licensed physician or Senior Technologist. Supervision may be exercised over the work of a small number of aides or clerical employees. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
· Schedules x-ray examinations and insures identification of patients;
· Measures, prepares and positions patients for radiography;
· Selects and sets up exposure factors on x-ray equipment;
· Administers x-rays for diagnostic purposes;
· Reviews films for technical accuracy and determines need for retakes or additional views;
· Inspects, adjusts and makes minor repairs to equipment;
· Observes and records patients’ condition and reports significant information;
· Attends in-service and other training courses to remain current in the field;
· May requisition and store supplies and materials;
· May assist physicians in fluoroscopy and special radiological procedures;
· Interviews patients in order to obtain a detailed history;
· Documents and communicates pertinent history to the Radiologist;
· Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives;
· Performs quality assurance as required;
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of x-ray physics; good knowledge of radiographic techniques; good knowledge of darkroom chemistry and techniques; good knowledge of anatomy and physiology; good knowledge of radiation protection; good knowledge of accepted professional ethics; skill in the operation, adjustment and minor repair of x-ray producing equipment; ability to carry out complex oral and written directions; ability to get along well with patients; thoroughness; reliability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of license and current registration (or temporary permit pursuant to section 89.12 of Public Health Law) as an X-Ray or Radiologic Technician or Technologist issued by the New York State Department of Health.
NOTE: Individuals who qualify with a temporary permit will only be eligible for a temporary appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate from the American Red Cross or equivalent certifying agency on the basis of standards approved by the State Commissioner of Health must be obtained during the probationary period and kept current during employment.
