DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS & SECURITY

The work involves responsibility to coordinate and administer emergency preparedness and security activities in a hospital setting to meet operational requirements in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines. Responsibilities include establishing, planning and organizing, equipping and training hospital staff and employees and implementing the emergency preparedness and security programs. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting in establishing and administering systems and procedures to provide the comprehensive security and safety of all Lewis County General Hospital property, buildings, equipment, personnel and visitors at the main hospital campus and clinics. Environment of Care work is performed under the general direction of the Environment of Care Committee chairperson and emergency department Head Nurse in accordance with State and Federal regulations and guidelines. The security work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Facilities.  Does related work as required. 

Thorough knowledge of emergency preparedness and security operational requirements of local, state and federal guidelines in accordance with JCAH, CMS, NFPA and OSHA standards; good knowledge of personnel recruiting and training methods; good knowledge of the principles and operation of modern emergency communication systems; ability to plan and coordinate complex emergency preparedness operations; ability to read and interpret complex written material; ability to write policies, procedures and reports; ability to conduct educational in-services; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital officials, staff, employees, and the general public; ability to interpret emergency preparedness and security plans to others; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to operate a personal computer and utilize common software programs.

The successful candidate will have graduated from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a bachelor’s degree and two years of health care or long-term care experience; or Graduated from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an associate’s degree and four years of health care or long-term care experience; or have a minimum 5 years of security and safety management experience in mid-size or large organization and Extensive knowledge of healthcare and/or hospital security environments including state and federal laws and codes pertaining to security and safety compliance or have graduated from a regionally accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or public safety, and five years of experience in safety and security work for a public / private law enforcement agency or private security agency, three year of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or (b) seven years of the experience listed in (a) including the two year of specialized experience.
